Post-Op Rehab for a Total Knee Replacement

Physical therapy can help you get back to your life and the things you love in so many ways.

On our blog, we love to celebrate this by sharing success stories straight from our patients (with their permission, of course!). Please enjoy Ms. Hattie’s story, and how we helped her reach her goals for surgery recovery.

ABOUT MS. HATTIE

Ms. Hattie is a nurse in the Durham area. She came to see us for physical therapy as post-op rehabilitation after a total left knee replacement surgery.

Our GOALS for Hattie’s physical therapy treatment

In listening to Ms. Hattie’s goals for recovery and assessing her physical state post-surgery, Ms. Hattie’s PT, Sarah Russell, put together a treatment plan that helped her:

  • Increase range of motion to match her opposite knee

  • Walk without an assistive device

  • Use stairs safely and with confidence

  • Return to her pre-operation workout schedule

Here’s what Ms. Hattie shares about reaching her goals through physical therapy at NCCPT.

What was your INITIAL goal when you first came to physical therapy?

“To bend my knee at least 90 degrees and walk without any assistive device.”

How did your therapist help you succeed in reaching your goal?

“Sarah worked with me extensively on reaching my goals. She challenged me. Sarah was very encouraging. Allowed me to participate in goal setting.

She worked with me on increasing my endurance. She had a vested interest in what I needed to achieve to return back to work and successfully perform my job. She is an excellent therapist and I worked very hard to meet her expectations.”

We were so happy to cheer Ms. Hattie on and help her recover well from her knee replacement surgery. She is one of our many patients that we’ve partnered with in the past 10+ years of our clinic.
